On Wednesday 1st March, Winchester College students took part in two outreach events in celebration of St David's Day.
As part of their regular CS Primary Schools Music commitments, Winchester College Sixth Form pupils have been teaching a variety of songs to the Year 4s at All Saints Primary School.
On Wednesday 1st March, the All Saints pupils joined with children from five other local schools for a St David’s Day concert in Winchester Cathedral, as part of a joint outreach project run by the Cathedral, The Pilgrims’ School and the College.
The All Saints’ pupils took a strong musical lead in the performance of songs, which included ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’, ‘You raise me up’ and ‘Winchester Cathedral’.
At the same time, CS Jazz, our 12-piece band, travelled to the west of the city under the masterful eye of Mr Dickson to entertain over 400 children. Following a rousing rendition of ‘Land of my Fathers’, prizes of Welsh cakes were given to a young conductor who willingly took the baton for one of the numbers and to those who displayed rhythmic prowess.
